SAUCY JACK COMES TO LONDON!

In 1995, my son Mike Fidler and some of his friends from his theatre program at  Kent University  in Canterbury, England, were offered a good venue at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival if they could come up with a show over the weekend. They got together and came up with the crazy idea of writing a cult- space- disco -musical, and called it Saucy Jack and The Space Vixens. When I arrived in Edinburgh to see Mike and the gang and their show, they were on the top of the world. Saucy Jack had just won the Edinburgh Fringe First Award, one of Great Britain’s highest theatre honours. Since those humble beginnings, Jack has been to the Festival 4 times, has toured England, had 2 London England West End productions, and for some time had its own cabaret theatre under a railway arch in South London. Since it became available for other groups to do, it has been produced around the world.

And now it comes to London-Canada!

Produced by London’s Simply Theatre Company, and directed by Dale Hirlehey, Saucy Jack will accompany The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as a Bring Your own Venue show at the London Fringe Theatre Festival, June 18 – 27.

Jack Tinker, drama critic of the London Daily Mail, called it “The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the Millennium!” It is set in a futuristic cabaret bar (run dictatorially by the mysterious Saucy Jack) on  Planet Frottage at the slum end of the universe, in a world where plastics have been outlawed (and are therefore very valuable), where disco has been rediscovered and is considered noble and empowering, and where law and order is maintained by the intergalactic crime squad, The Space Vixens. A serial murderer called the Sling- Back Killer is on the loose and a line of cabaret artistes have been killed, stabbed by a red sequined sling-back high- heeled shoe. This looks like a job for---- The Space Vixens!

Auditions for the show are scheduled for Sat., Feb. 6, 12 to 3pm  and Sunday 12-3-pm, in the Labatt Lounge, on the Mezz, and are open to anyone in the community  18 and older.

Do 1 minute of a disco song, unaccompanied or with CD accompaniment. There will be a dance audition, so dress appropriately.

To book auditions and to get further information go to Jeff Crane on Facebook/jeff@simplytheatre.com / 519-670-5543.

He can send you character descriptions if you wish.
