PURE LOVE IN A THEATRE
Over the Holiday break, I happened on this passage in a mystery novel by Harlan Coben, and I am now happy to dedicate it to all OK parents.
“You’re sitting there and you have tears in your eyes and you think about the wonder of this moment, and then - and this is the amazing thing - you look around the theatre at the other parents and you realize everyone feels exactly the same way about their own kid. I mean, that’s so obvious and simple, and yet something about it overwhelms me. I can’t believe this tremendous feeling, this wave of love, doesn’t belong to us alone and that what we’re experiencing isn’t unique – and that just made it somehow greater. I remember watching the other parents in the audience. You see the wet eyes and the smiles. You see the wives reach for their husband’s hand, no words exchanged. And I remember being just awed. Like – I don’t know – like I couldn’t believe one room, this theatre, could be so full of pure love and not just take off from the ground.”

OK’s IN THEIR COMMUNITY
I was pleased to be in touch this week with Veronica Bryan, a long time OK. I remember her fondly from our inaugural production in the Spriet of the musical Quilters which I directed. Nice, Veronica! Always touching to hear about Original Kid Grads carrying our torch! Here’s her interesting update:
“It now feels like ages ago, but Original Kids was my pre-teen/teen stomping grounds for embracing my creative side.  I still have good friends that I keep in contact with from OK. Even after years of not seeing each other, we always have that common bond of theatre and OK that brings us even closer!  Leigh Hardie (who was a member for years) and I often see each other as we now both live in Vancouver.

Since Original Kids, I have completed an Honours Theatre Degree from York, and then went back to College to further my education.  I now work with individuals with special needs, mainly Autism.  I am currently starting my own theatre company Ability Theatre, which will focus on teens and adults with special needs performing for their community.

Below is the link for my theatre campaign.  I am very excited to share this with all of you at Original Kids, not even in hopes for donations, but rather to spread the word about my company to anyone you may know who resides out in Vancouver.

I find myself thinking with fondest memories about Original Kids!  The friendships I formed, the skills I learned in rehearsals, the opportunities I had to perform in front of live audiences, our trip to Scotland, how I found my singing voice, not to mention my confidence.  So many thanks and a big hello to all back home.

Take a moment to check out ABILITY THEATRE on IndieGoGo and also share it with your friends. All the tools are there. Get perks, make a contribution, or simply follow updates. If enough of us get behind it, we can make 'ABILITY THEATRE' happen.

Love and Many Thanks from the bottom of my heart. “
Veronica Bryan.
